“Wherever there is me, there is me aside“
video-sculptural installation, 2005
The installation avails itself of two media that were conceived as a unit and interact directly.
The spatial-plastic element of this work is composed of two molded pillars
of plaster with different shapes that are in the natural size of a human
being. This composition creates a female full-body silhouette in profile.
These static images of, on the one hand real and on the other, fictive power
are confronted with a further dimension, the cinematic one:
the projection of a motionless standing female figure on the pillars. Despite
the stock-still female figure this picture gets into motion and loosens itself
bit by bit from the objects; it blends into the silhouette, curtails it and
also leaves it, passes through a notional space, returns and goes on in an
infinite loop.
In my space-film-installation, materiality and immateriality in alternation
and in exchange are exposed to both random and intended factors. Consciously
I use the interaction of different media for my self-portrayal, which incessantly
eludes myself from myself and the observer. The permanent reshaping and reinterpretation
of my ego is full of cultural and personal associations. It does not just
describe the constant mechanisms of my emotionally perceived identity or
remains in the blurred interpretation of reality. Furthermore, it is the
expression of the diffuse awareness of life that diagnoses the diverse varieties
of my cultural perception.
My view of the being is communicated through the materialisation and the
dematerialisation of the body which is the reflection and the catalyser of
the sequences of actions and thoughts that cyclically diverge and condense.
Due to these paradox interventions, the observer learns of the variety of
guises of the intercultural identity.
