There is a big problem in Colombia about war outside
the big cities, the people that live and work in the farms are pressed to quit
their modus vivendi and go to the big city where there are no spaces or apropiate
places for them to live, they have to create these spaces physically and conceptually,
it means they have to learn about how to live in the city and how to find material
ways to live, my projet is to go and live in the space of the exhibition, adapting
the place to live during the time of the complete exhibition and talking with
the public about the political situation of Colombia. Many intellectuals againts
the governement
(or general social situation) are obliged too to leave the
country. In general art exhibitions and museums are spaces like airports or
highways created under the concept of passing by and never in the sense of
living in it. While developing this project I was very influenced
by the life of Diogene (Diogenes) the cynic philospher, who in his way did
the same againt the system and encoureged people in an ethic manner to think
and act, and the more important the manner to live the philosophy and do of
philosophy a device for the life, getting out of the civilization and living
like a dog.
I will build my space searching utilitary objets from the garbage of the neighbourhood.
I need to rent a W.C. and buy some food. Right now I am in Europe in difficoult
conditions about visa etc. I have to quit the Schengen space every two months
and then enter again, this situation made me a witness of the problems of people
obliged to move searching better conditions of life.
I did this experience in a Gallery of Bogota and I think many people react about
the problem; I recived many gifts of public (a sofa to sleep, foot, photos, book,
etc.) and I did many politic discutions about the situation of the country, and
how people could help in someway the peasants from the towns.
